What do u think about the version of "Jaguar" by Sébastien Tellier ? I've the impression that it's a mark of disrespect to copy this track without ask for a legal permission ? I've too the impression that the UR crew has lost his credibility since the "chess" of Interstellar Fugitives 2 who has disappointed many fans, notably Mad Mike who is became a comic these last years. Who represents the future of UR philosophy ?

look in the other - main - forum. thereīs a thread discussing this already. 1. he asked for permission so itīs legal. 2. people on the board donīt really like it.
I've too the impression that the UR crew has lost his credibility since the "chess" of Interstellar Fugitives 2 who has disappointed many fans,
joker - it wasnīt only a great one, maybe even the most diverse electronic album (count Electro/Techno/House albums in the past 20 years) of all times, disappointing only the ignorant and stubborn. this album will definitely go down in history as a milestone. it is so incredibly diverse and sparkles with creativity that it still blows my head every time I listen to it (and thatīs on a regular basis), for 2 years solid now. ISF2 is a masterpiece and if you have got a real point, then bring it on - tell me what you donīt like on ISF2. tracks, style, but give me an ARGUMENT. ISF2 is what UR always stood for: creativity and diversity. I can give you a hundred reasons why ISF2 is brilliant - all reasons that are based on arguments about music and art in general, not just "eeeh, itīs not going bumm bumm bumm so I donīt like it".
notably Mad Mike who is became a comic these last years
on what do you base this statement? ignoring his past and present musical achievements? ignoring his community activities? ignoring how he again unites the most talented Detroit artist (no disrespect to other producers of course! the pool of gifted ones in Detroit is huge) under the UR banner and inspires them so they bring their absolute best to the forefront? itīs obvious he spurs them to top-performings, listen to releases on other labels, artists always do their best on UR. what devil did ride you to come up with such a totally pointless statement? what I can tell thereīs not many people with so much integrity in the music business like Michael Banks. listen to what other musicians and DJs have to say about him if you donīt respect his own appearances.
Who represents the future of UR philosophy ?
the people who are LISTENING (the legions around the globe) should represent the UR philosophy, should carry what UR planted (and what was planted in UR from their forfathers). who will carry the torch for the musical side of UR? the most talented people that electronic music has to offer these days - Milton Baldwin, Santiago Salazar, Dex, Cornelius Harris and all the other "new" (compared to the old ones, hahaha) boys, and the "old guys" will surely go from strength to strength - Gerald Mitchell, Andre Holland, Raphael Marriweathers JR, Marc Floyd, Mark Taylor, and all the others, each bringing their own twist to the UR soundworld. with Mad Mike at the operation and control... the future for UR looks brighter than ever, judged from the music that was released in the past years. the hype may be overm but thatīs not bad at all... Atlantis managing the label, the live activities set new standards, and the releases, wow, what can I say. I truly hate the dumb talk of people being in "nostalgic" mood, talking about these revolutionary days of their youth and their first raves and how they enjoyed the early UR hits. fuck it! you donīt like ISF2? ok, then EW2 will blow your head if youīre one of the "hard boys".
by the way: Iīm just a European guy with no relation to UR, so Iīm not someone from the "inside" "defending" UR. but I have ears and eyes and a clear mind to tell you you are talking shit, man!

Whitelodge pretty much said everything I wanted to say, but I will add this. There have been several similar conversations on other sites with the same basic subject matter. I don't claim to be the biggest UR fan ever, but they are up there at the top of my influences/ inspiration/ etc....Not my ONLY influences, but pretty high...you get the point. They don't need me to defend them either, but it's my opinion that it's really easy to sit behind a computer screen, play music critic, and talk out the side of your neck all day. I think it's not so easy to please wanna be techno elete the world over for close to twenty years.I've read comments like "UR is one of the worst labels in the techno scene" and "mad mike is a clown" It only leads me to think one thing. Where are these idiots coming from?????, and that they are just dumb scensters following a trend. I think jack frost, and a guy called gerald should have kept making acid music, and that d&b is bullshit, but it changes nothing, and it;s just my opinion. So if I like ALL of UR's records , does that mean I now like some bullshit?Gimme a break!!!I'm still waiting for all these fools who think UR is so bad theese days to put out some shit that kills it. Talk is cheap. Everyone can think anything they want, but if you're not into it just go away already.Cuz for some of us this aint just a passing trend. It's life.Like Whitelodge, i'm also not associated with them, just a long time listener. My rant is over.

a) The title of the other topic was : Damned "Jaguar" massacred. I don't agree with the others users and i like this version by Sébastien Tellier. b) I don't drink alcohol and not take drugs so my reasoning is not altered but there are 31 tracks and many of them are scamped. The only originality is make a DVD which is very exceptional. c) For those who don't know this, Sébastien Tellier is the French artist who'll represent France at the Eurovision award 2008. you say a total pointless, average programmed and mixed copy of an existing song is what you like, while you canīt see the class of ISF2, which has got it all - bouncing Techno/House hits like Moon Rays. dark, emotional tracks like Infiltratorīs stuff or the Dex track. brave successful experiments like the Blues and Punk/Rock crossover tracks (Song For The Hmong, Never). killer Electro tracks like Geigercounter or Electrocuter. simply deeeeep stuff where you canīt put the "House", "Techno" or "Electro" tag on because itīs electronic music out of the usual context, like Perceptionīs tracks or Mad Mikeīs Chaos & Order or Aquanauts Aquatic Kamikazi. thereīs 21st century Funk of S2 or sexy smoked out old school Soul like Diskensertion, and so on and so on and so on (Raphael Merriweatherīs stuff, Deaconīs stuff, a great return of Dijital after his Direct Beat classics ...)? all of it is quality and pointing out individual tracks wouldnīt do the album justice! man, this album has more quality to offer in every sense - songwriting, diversity, sounddesign (we can always argue about mixdown, but the used sounds are great and tasteful in every track) - than most of todayīs electronic music scene. now TELL ME what it is that you donīt think is of great quality. track names (letīs see how much "boring" or "average" tracks you can get out of the 31 - you said "scamped"), or sound, or style, or WHAT is it that you base your comment on? and what is the GOOD thing in the Jaguar coverversion (itīs not even a remix or such)?
if you drink alcohol or take drugs, man this has nothing to do with it (to be sober doesnīt mean anything, just if youīre totally addicted then you have a problem - control the substance and you gain sometimes great experiences out of that, often sober people are just filled with fear - f.e. it took years until I tested hallucinogenics because I simply was afraid. or I knew people who donīt drink any alcohol because they are afraid to end as alcoholic. on the other hand, of course it doesnīt mean to be brave if you try out a substance. itīs up to everyone for himself/herself.)
ps: the reason I react like that isnīt just because I love ISF2 so much, but itīs also because your statement is completely disrespectful to people who actually deserve respect like hardly any other people in this music/genre. and 2. because your statements are ignorant and donīt include arguments. and Iīm always upset about such habit, no matter what the topic is. look, Iīm not the biggest fan of Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. I like Millsī Every Dog Has Itīs Day, Metropolis and a few other things (f.e. the Special 3x3 7" series which give a good overview about his stuff), but most of his stuff is simply not talking to me on an emotional level. same with Robert hood, whose Nighttime World 1 & 2 I do like very much, but not much else. still I can see their quality and originality, that both do important things. so just because I donīt like them doesnīt mean I talk shit about their efforts. I appreciate them because I try to be as objective as I can when we discuss art.
