UR translucent records 2007/12/14 23:22
Hi everyone,
There was some activity on discogs recently as some people discovered that some of their UR records were translucent, namely UR-049, SID-002, the WPA-003 and the UR-018R.
Anyone knows if they may officialy be the first pressings, or if some copies just happened to be translucent due to the quality of the vinyls?
Last thing which makes the case even more curious is that the dark purple and marbled UR-050 was obviously not a quality mistake...
Thnks for the help!

I had a similar thing happen with.. http://www.discogs.com/release/1075441 I never opened it cuz I have 2 of them so I never noticed. The light hit just right one day to shine thru the hole in the sleeve. saw a sliver of purple, and was like damn..SCORE!!! Then I ebayd it for $150.00!!!!!! Just kidding I still have it.(it's not for sale) I have some Relief records that always looked black too. Played them a hundred times, and never noticed. Then one by one noticed that they are actually a dark brown translucent color. It was after I changed the position of the light in my room. I don't know if those ones were suppost to be colored or not. Sadly...My SID 002 , and Jaguar mixes are both plain black vinyl. I've heard that colored viny wears out faster, and doesen't sound as good from the beginning tho. I don't really know if thats true, but I've heard it

I just have the "Jag" (ur49), "Underground Resistance Interstellar" (ur18r)and "the Grey Area" (MP307-1) in this "translucent" dark brown coloured vinyl edition.

I also own the dark purple "Hidden in Plainsight" (UR50X2).

nice "For Those Who Know" vinyl gimmick.

reagrds.

I still think that the Hidden in Plainsight is an "official special translucent pressing", because:
- it's far more beautiful than the "almost-translucent" records
- the vinyl colour matches the labels
- the whole X2 technology was a special thing

the "brown" semi-translucent ones are because of the raw materials they use at a pressing plant (mostly Archer in Detroit), not a special intention in most cases
