really amazing to see UR at last.
it was a cool weekender, shame i didn't see UR members going to check out Dynamix 2 after they'd finished which they should have done!
the room smelt of arse, that was the main downer.
the boys did a good show, tho i thought the arabic flourishes over the charging horseman were nothing less than camp. they dropped frequency 7 by visage and kraftwerk, and matey kept shouting "ichi ni san shi" too long which was embarassing. basically they were well cool, apart from the facemasks which have lost their maturity by now. heh heh this review sounds really negative, it's not meant to be, UR are great and entertained us all, just constructive criticism. very cool visuals. keep up the good work boys but make sure you stay on point, it's been a long time now. by the way, there is no black and white, only shades of brown, and we are not from africa, we are from earth so step off the black panther podium please.

OK, I see what you mean about their facemasks and black panthers stuff. But I think they're accurate sadly, from what I can say: things are getting worse in France, more and more people are becoming homeless and overdebted, racism is still there and now rich people are happy to throw their money in the face of the poor, a thing that was not happenning before. The message is in the music not in the facemasks.

here my opinion:
1. the facemasks have a different meaning than "playing riot" like you may think (I just assume this, you didn´t say it). the facemasks are a vital part of the UR concept, music vs. personalities is one point but please read in several interviews for yourself, as I couldn´t talk for someone from UR. when you read (or watch, there have been a few official video appearances by UR recently) you may get a different opinion about the masks. and yes, fuck it, I think the purely visual aspect is just fine as well. the masks look good. they´re interstellar fugitives after all!!!
2. "entertaining"... to me, UR is more than entertainment. saying you were entertained by them but criticise thier background/concept doesn´t do their "history" justice. fun at parties, yes, but still the music has a message which always oscillates with the tones. apart from the music that´s another thing that sets UR apart from the mass. ISF 1 & 2 have a very serious concept, the CD booklet reveals more than the vinyl version.
3. yes, for white European people (like me) it is hard to understand, but I realized that what you call "Black Panther mentality" (and what I would respect above all, and not lightheartedly use for cynical statements) is not something that several people from Detroit "use" I guess. because how black people were treated in the "Western civilization" didn´t happen hundreds of years ago - it happened some decades ago. Rosa Parks, in the 50s, Detroit Riots, in the late 60s, some UR people were already born, and I can´t imagine how I would act when this would be my town´s, my family´s history. (and: as long as our wealth comes from Africa´s demise it´s not possible to say "we´re all one planet".)
I really hope I don´t come across like Cortez or anyone that wants to speak for UR. of course it is nothing but my personal view on it.
