DJ 3000 discovered the rich history of Detroit Techno by going straight to the source. Through a friend he was introduced to the world of 2030, one of Detroit's most famous outlets for electronic music, and by association, introduced to the world of Underground Resistance, and hasn't looked back since. He fell in with the Submerge crew and moved forward from there.

RIP J.Dilla Print E-mail

ImageFriday, February 10th, we lost a good one. Detroit producer James Yancey aka Jay Dee, aka J. Dilla passed away leaving behind an impressive musical legacy., No, the man didn?t rise to fame as a techno DJ, but sometimes genre doesn?t matter. He made his mark in hip hop and if you?re a head, and you?ve listened to any hip hop in the past 7 years I?d find it hard to believe if you haven?t heard, bought, or downloaded something he?s touched.  We could try to say more, but there are dozens of homepages, blogs, and no doubt magazines that will probably do it better. Still, we?d be crazy not to make some space for a Detroit musical powerhouse. RIP.

"Order and Chaos"
Order and chaos.  Two primal opposites from the beginning of time.  Chaos has lead to the destruction of some of the greatest civilizations the earth has ever known.  In the form of drugs, disease, and war, we are very familiar with how chaos has asserted itself as the destroyer of the best humanity has to offer.  Bringing order to chaos has been a primary concern of people the world over.  But order is not exempt from this destructive dynamic as well.  Order is the force behind almost every dictatorship known in human history.  American slavery was one of the most orderly systems devised, as well as one of the most brutal.  Slaves were carefully accounted for and classified as Negro, mulatto, quadroon, octroon and so on and each had a relatively specific social and economic function.  Germany?s Nazi regime asserted order in that country and beyond, at the cost of millions of lives.  The chaos of 9/11 has lead to an order that asserts itself as a straight jacket on the civil liberties of men, women, and children around the world.

But chaos has come to the rescue numerous times throughout history.  The chaos of the Civil War opened the door to the end of slavery in the United States (the last country in the Americas to do so).  World War II saw the end of the Nazi regime, war being the definition of chaos.  Even Gandhi?s nonviolent liberation movement can be seen as creating chaos within the Empire?s structure, leading to its eventual downfall.  It is impossible to conceive of a revolution that was not born in chaos or cause chaos in the dismantling of the oppressive order.  Indeed, it is ironic, or, perhaps destined, that the counter to chaos would be order, and the counter to oppressive order is chaos.

From the great minds that brought you the legendary Detroit Techno distributor Submerge we are happy to bring you with us to the next level. It's time to take the fight to stay independent back to the people where it belongs! We listened to what you wanted and now we bring to you a new format for our music. In a time where pirated digital downloads rule the internet we've decided to give you the choice to buy our music legitimatly instead of having to go and pirate it to have the mp3's. We all know how easy it is to get free music and we know that you aren't rich because neither are we but we hope you understand that by pirating the music from small independant labels you do serious damage to the music industry and drive everbody towards the majors because they can take the hit and keep runnin'. Well we still say Fuck The Majors! We don't care how you get their music but we do care how you get ours.

We've heard 'em, old broke down 128kbps crackily recordings off some fools old wore out record and we think it sounds like some bullshit. That is not the way this music is meant to be heard so we are going to give you a choice of 192 or 320kbps taken off the original production masters then digitally remastered by our very own crew. For the real Heads out there we are going to offer full uncompressed .wav files on selected releases for you to take and render in any format you need. Some releases will feature special bonus tracks not found anywhere else but on DetroitDigitalVinyl.com . We will constantly be adding in more and more releases every week to keep it fresh and new for everybody. You already know that Submerge destroys the competition on vinyl and we plan to destroy it in the digital realm as well. With all the new music technology out there there is no telling what you guys will do with it and we think that's half the fun.

-The Plan

Welcome to the Final Frontier:  http://www.detroitdigitalvinyl.com/
