Work With UR Through Alter Ego! |
|
|
It's that time of the year again! No, that OTHER time of the year! The time when Alter Ego Management (of whom Underground Resistance is our biggest client!) starts searching for interns! Tasks can and will range from booking, to artist relations, to the not so exciting, mundane things like typing, researching and cataloging. We will be interfacing with Submerge (of course!), Indiana University, radio stations, and more. It's an unpaid internship, but college credit CAN be arranged.
This is an internship for people interested in the BUSINESS of music, in particular, artist and project management and artist relations. We do not have any music production internships available. The internship is extremely flexible in that the responsibilities and hours can vary from person to person. For instance, if a candidate can write good copy, but cannot travel, then perhaps that person would do only that. The time frame is for four months for anyone looking to receive any sort of college credit as an independent study from January to April. Anyone simply looking for experience can discuss with us the parameters of what he or she is looking to accomplish with the internship and how long that may be.
Given the nature of the work, there is a tendency to assume this is casual, "fun" work, and it can be, but schedules and deadlines can be critical to the functioning of the label and there will be some very unglamorous, boring work that still needs to be done as well. There are going to be times when your own creativity and innovation will be critical to getting the job done. This is not a corporate job where you are in a box and expected to only perform a set group of tasks.
While some of the tasks can be tailored to your strengths, the real development comes from taking on challenges that you may be unfamiliar with so that you can grow. The position involves being exposed to a number of problems, the successful candidate will be a person who knows how to find solutions. Below is a list of things that may be asked of you. It is not all inclusive and it may include aspects that you will never experience in the course of the internship. Experience is NOT a prerequisite, only a strong desire to work and learn.
Making followup or cold calls to venues
Reviewing demos
Picking up and/or dropping off artists at the airport
Collection of artist fees for performances
Selling merchandise
Arranging for the design and manufacture of merchandise
Writing and/or distributing press releases and promotional materials
Acting as an artist assistant
Arranging interviews, photo shoots
Tour management
Licensing music to other labels
Arranging remixes for artists
Assisting in show production and/or booking
Researching venues, festivals, labels, travel and more
Responding to fan questions and comments
Conflict resolution
Reading articles, books, blogs, and more
Reviewing basic contracts for performance, sales, etc.
Given that the position may expose you to sensitive information regarding artists on this label and others, a confidentiality agreement is required. Any written documentation of the internship, including academic, is subject to review before dissemination.
Are there perks? Of course! You get access to free music and concerts, meet some of the biggest names in dance and electronic music and more. The internship may very well open up opportunities to work in other fields or in other countries. Or, in the course of the internship, you may be able to create your own paid post internship position with UR, Alter Ego, or another organization. Anything is possible.
For more information contact ALTER EGO MANAGEMENT. Please make certain to put "Internship" in the subject line.
Thank you!
